"The Orientation and Mobility Program offers training with the long cane, sighted guide, night travel, residential travel, and rural travel in the consumers home area to individuals that are interested. The purpose of this training is to afford the consumer the opportunity to travel independently in a safe, efficient, and graceful manner. We would like to provide each local school district with the opportunity to utilize these O&M services. We employ four O&M instructors, all of whom have Masters degrees and are certified by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education of Professionals." |

How can a local school district obtain services?
The goal of the Office for the Blind (OFB) is EMPLOYMENT.
We believe that it is essential for students to be adequately prepared for their future employment opportunities.
To further our efforts to promote employment and independence among students, school districts may purchase O&M services from OFB if the O&M staff is available. OFB will charge each school district only the amount necessary to recover the costs of salaries, fringe benefits, and travel.
Because employment beyond high school may depend on O&M services, the consumers from OFB must be served first. If time is available, the instructors may be available to help students in your local school district learn how to independently negotiate their environments.
In the event that OFB O&M instructors are not available, we may refer you to other resources in your community.
Who should school districts contact regarding O&M services?
Contact the regional administrators in your area. A service area map shows which staff covers each Kentucky county.
